A group of flamingos is, most amazingly, called a flamboyance. Both flamingo and flamboyance come from words referring to fire. Flamboyance comes from French, meaning “to flame” or “flair.”
The lesser flamingo is one of the smallest and the brightest of the flamingos
Flamingos are a social species, choosing to live in flocks of hundreds or even thousands of individuals. This safety in numbers approach helps to protect them from predators.
Flamingos visit the Pulicat Lake, Chennai with the onset of the northeast monsoon.
Flamingos commonly mate for life, and also make loyal, life-long friends.
When we think of flamingos, we immediately see the colour pink. Interestingly, they are born with a greyish colour. They only developed their pink hue due to the carotenoids in the microscopic algae that eat shrimps. As flamingos eat algae and shrimp.
