My piece deals with the need to normalize the period in our society. To do this, I created a purse out of pads and tampons. The irony of using pads and tampons to make the purse is that a purse normally conceals these products so that no one will know a woman is on her period. The body of the purse is made of pad pieces cut into small squares then pieced back together in a new pattern. The yellow decorations around the purse are the pad wrappers. The strap is created out of tampons strung together end to end. I covered the pads in red cellophane so that it would not be obvious that its is made of pads. I did this because if we are going to normalize periods, we will have to softly introduce them to the rest of society as a normal and daily product, otherwise it could frighten people more because it is such a glaring object in the eyes of many.
