Samuel Brice Hall's profile

New Documentary Shines a Light on Ella Fitzgerald

The recipient of a master's degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Samuel Brice Hall is an experienced accounting professional who has served as director of investor relations at Piedmont Private Equity, LLC, since 2011. Samuel Brice Hall enjoys listening to a wide range of music in his spare time, and counts Ella Fitzgerald as one of his favorite musicians.

Fitzgerald is a jazz icon who was discovered at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem in 1934, and went on to become one of the most renowned singers in the world. She won 13 Grammy Awards and sold more than 40 million albums during her six-decade career. She was also a key figure in the Civil Rights Movement, who received both the American Black Achievement Award and the NAACP Equal Justice Award. Her rise to fame and her work in racial justice is chronicled in the new documentary, Just One of Those Things.

The documentary is produced and directed by Reggie Nadelson and Leslie Woodhead, respectively, and features interviews with Tony Bennett, Norma Miller, Smokey Robinson, and Johnny Mathis, among others. It also includes a conversation with her son, Ray Brown Jr. The film was due to be released in cinemas nationwide this past April, but was cancelled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, it will be available on streaming platforms beginning June 26.
