Invasive Species Intervention
[Educational Video / Motion Graphics ]
This project addresses the current issue of invasive plants at the Melville Koppies Heritage Site in Melville, Johannesburg. The proposed solution makes use of botanical illustration and the associated principals of plant identification as well as multimedia-oriented design.
Audience and Concept
The comparison is made to a home or house, the house being the Melville Koppies Heritage Site. Society is the owner of this house and has to maintain and keep it clean, so that the site can give back to the community in the long run. Nevertheless, at inopportune times we are paid a surprise visit by uninvited guests; the invasive plants (aka the bug-weed). The message is clear, we have to clean up the leftovers and return the Melville Koppies to its former indigenous glory.
Creative Approach and Final Execution
The solution is a collaboration between the SCOUTS South Africa and the Melville Koppies Management Committee (MKMC), which entails the hosting of a series of public awareness events.
