Pro - Tonic
The Pro-Tonic ring I am designing is stylish and can fit on anyone's finger, regardless of the finger width due to its adjustable design. It's stylish and contemporary, with the built in feature of it being able to test for drugs. All the user must do is simply stick the tip of the ring into any liquid and if a drug is present, it will glow within seconds. The design intent is to ensure users can be safe when at parties or clubs. This design uses the chemistry of the already available date rape drug test and enhances it. The ring glowing after being in contact with drugs makes for a beautiful aesthetic and ensures the user will notice, even in a dark room which is the common setting for parties and clubs.

The below images show how much it lights up, making it very easy for a drunk person to notice and how other designers have incorporated this new technology into their designs.
Ideas and mechanics of how this ring will work:
All of the designs will fit around the finger comfortably to work best with the human anatomy of fingers. All designs are long enough to go into the drink without the wearer needing to put their finger in the drink. When the wearer bends their finger, the tip of the ring will be exposed, thus the wearer can put this tip into their drink.
Drawings above show legalistic of how my contemporary ring design will work and the overall shape I am going for. All I need to do is decide on the style and atheistic I want to go for. Then from all the design ideas and styles I have and will investigate, I narrow down the ideas, keeping parts which I most prefer the atheistic of and want to incorporate into my final design.

First design rendered:
This design has a rounded tip so that the wearer doesn’t accidentally poke people or themselves with sharp edges, also has 2 tips on the end instead of 1 to reduce the chances of breaking if hit hard onto something. Also has no sharp edges so the drug testing liquid can slide inside the ring easily. The large size is to cover a lot of the finger so the user will notice if it starts glowing. There is a slit in the ring so regardless of the users finger width, they can all fit the ring and has the ability to chose what finger they feel most comfortable wearing it on.

Second design rendered:
This is the second design, the yellow (second image) is the ring when its lit up and the other four renders are when its not lit up, I will decide which aesthetic looks best for when its not lit up. Its curved to ensure no injuries and has a longer tip at the end for dipping into the drink. When lit up the entire mesh part of the ring will light up which covers lots of the finger to ensure the user clearly notices it when lit up. Also a very aesthetic design when not lit up and stylish, designed for any party or club environment. There is curvature around the top middle of the ring where the knuckle sits, fitting to the users finger and ensuring comfort when wearing.

Some quick images of the ring on the finger to show where it will sit:
The yellow is when the ring is lit up and in effect e.g. it has detected a drug when the tip has been submerged in liquid and the rose gold colour is what it looks like normally. I have chosen to go with the rose gold compared to other colours shown above as its very stylish and from a quick survey, I have found that this was the most preferred style as many people liked the shiny aspect to it. This style is open at the back to ensure adjustability as no matter the width of the users finger, it will fit on. Also having this adjustability means that the user has choice on what finger they have the ring on.

Third design render - similar to design 2:
Left two renders are when the ring is dormant, and the right two are when the ring is lit up. The design is similar to the second design with the mesh like body, also having it not fully connected, allowing for ajustability with the users finger width however this model having the more exposed mesh allows for a flexy material so is more comfortable for the user.
Final design rendered and in context :
Before the ring has been in contact with a drug:
After the ring has been in contact with a drug:
Final presentation image:
Displays the measurements and how the ring sits on the finger and is used. This is my final design of my ring which I named the Pro-tonic. The name was created to encourage the positive (pro) and safe consumption of alcohol (tonic).
Design is stylish and fits all different widths of fingers with the open back design. Mesh style ensures majority of finger is encompassed so when lit up, the user will notice however, compared to a solid deign, having this mesh reduces the amount of material used which is more substantial and environmentally friendly and lighter for the user to wear e.g. not clunky and bulky.
