Vape Collection & Mint Dispenser
Quit Vaping Campaign was introduced as a “design intervention” to provide a solution to underage vaping use and the negative health effects teenagers can experience as a frequent user. Teenagers and young adults feel invincible against anything and everything, which is why a reported 10 million youth in the United States were open to using vapes in 2018 (Spectrum Health) because there is not as much knowledge on the effects of vaping. My design solution displays the important information to underage vape users, not with a scare tactic, but with facts and giving them the choice to make their own decisions on their health.
The question I referred to throughout the project was, “How do I present health information to teenagers that is not scary or taken comically?” and, “In what environment can this intervention be most successful?” After conducting research and interviews, bathrooms are the main area middle schoolers and high schoolers go during school hours to use vapes. By displaying the Quit Vaping vending machine before school bathrooms, at the point of use, students will be able to ask themselves what decision they want to make.
The mints are a healthier alternative to snacking or vaping once quitting. The stickers that read “Leave me alone: I quit vaping,” are a comical incentive to quit and brand to other students their choices, as most people who go through nicotine withdrawal are irritable.
Digital mock-ups. Completed March 2020, 5 month duration.
