Project type: UX Research & Product Design
Role: Team Research & Individually develop design concept
UX research is conducted with four teammates, Jonghyuck Yoon, Jiwon Han, Donghyuk Yoo, and  Jinjae Park. They are product designer. The process of developing design concpet is carried out individuallly after UX research. The parts of process is composed with defining functions, form and interactions.




1. Start from 
BREATHE - Y started from the research of home appliances which can affect lifestyle of millenial generation who lives alone in urban area.



2. Background Research
Background research for main issues and theme of home appliance, 4 fields, social, lifstyle, technology, and form & structure trends are investigated. The core values of the anlaysis are written the following cards. Through analysis of the core issues, managing the indoor environment is critcal for Korean urban resident. 



3. Defined fields from insights
Two insights were defined from the researched results. 
First insight is the increasing interest related to indoor air environments from lasting weathers with high fine dust concentration. The other is ‘Little premium’ emotion from target. The deign field is defined as air purifier from these insights.

1-2. UX research with LG Puri Care 360



2. Problems
There are several usage problems discovered by Narration Test and Focus Group Interview. Especially, two problems are critical for using LG Puri Care 360. All of subjects suffered or mentioned the issue of confused manual. Subjects felt Second problem is hard to check the status of air purifier and inddor air condition. 



3. Needs & Wishes
To figure out iternal needs and insight, analysis with narration video and collage making are used. Most of subjects shows positivie expression about the air purifier and want emotional ammusement because of their lifestyle. 
Following needs are choosed as critical insight from several results.

1. UX Research Result
Design Concept is based on 4 critical problems and needs. Analysis of results provides core value of air purifier design concpet. 



2. Define UX Keywords
To define the concept, UX Keywords are used. Following three keywords are defined by results analaysis and insight form the subjects opinion.



3. Solution & Concept
Design Concept is focused on problem solving and internal needs of user. “Intuitive Feedback”, “Chamelon Interaction”, “Appearance in the Forest” , are developed with UX Keyword. ​​​​​​​

Information Proximity

Height of the BREATHE - Y shows the purifying intensity if auto mode is running. The height shows and reflects continuous value of indoor air quality.

from 0.5m
When the distance between user and product is 0.5m or less than, moodlight on top side shows the detailed indoor air quality through color coding.  

from 0.25m
LCD on top side of product shows micro information, for example fine dust concentration, humidity odor pollution degree and etc, of indoor air quality. 





Auto & Manual Blooming Motion



When touching top side of product, BREATHE - Y is operating to down direction. The time and degree of height change decide purifying intensity.

When the top side is going down, appearance express the blooming of Ylang-Ylang. 

The main bodies generate and exhale clean and fresh air.
This motion is intentioned to express breathing.
