PENITENTIARY

This project came about from some "Floaty Pens" we had come across in the office, you know, those little pens that you can tip back and forth to reveal something else inside them. We developed the idea to use these as the starting point for a women's bathing-suit story in a summer issue. Striving for the more conceptual, I turned to ace photographer and longtime friend and collaborator Kenji Toma. The story line was that of a man doing time in a penitentiary, having a bizarre obsession with these pens. The story was nominated for an ASME award in photography, one of the highest honors in the industry.
The story was also noticed by a website dedicated to Floaty Pens called "Float About ".
