The Monster Collection is a boxed set containing musical superstar Lady Gaga’s albums Born This Way, The Fame, and Art Pop on 12” vinyl records. The set also includes a 12x12” catalog featuring a personal essay, selected lyrics, and a variety of collages and illustrations that convey the contents and moods of the albums. The concept behind the catalog and album visuals originates from the story of the Greek mythological creature the Chimera; a lion with the body of a goat and the tail of a snake. Each album in the set correlates to one part of the animal. When the albums are removed from the acrylic box, an image of Gaga appears integrated with the image of the featured animal for that album. When inside the box, only the animal imagery can be seen through the acrylic.
