Drop Cap designs inspired by Jessica Hische. Covers tell the story of the famous books and include an illustration of the first letter of the author's last name.
The Scarlet Letter is about a women who commits adultery with a minister while her husband is away. After the words spread she is forced to wear a letter A everywhere she goes to publicly shame her for what she has done. I decided to make the H seems as it is stitched, to show the A Hester had to have stitched on her clothes, while the thread itself shapes into the letter A.
Contrary to popular belief Frankenstein is not about a scary monster rather a misunderstood creature who is only looking for love and basic necessities. His creator, Frankenstein, abandons him when he sees what he has created and the poor creature is left alone and lost. For this cover I chose to make a more scientific approach to show how the creature was created while the vapor make the S of Mary Shelly’s last name.
