Mezcal

For the people that know me, the reason this project is so near and dear to my heart is pretty obvious.
After graphic design, my second biggest passion is food, especially when it comes from such an creative and delicious restaurant like Mezcal.
The name of the restaurant gives the concept away, it's a Mexican restaurant that has been serving, fresh, authentic mouth watering dishes in Tel Aviv for years.
But a few months ago, the owner, together with a young driven new chef decided it was time to refresh. They rebuilt the menu, renovated the space and decided to revamp the restaurants identity. And that's when I was brought into the picture.

We knew we wanted a fun and energetic feel. With this idea in mind, I came up with the inspiration: the hustling and bustling street food stands that you encounter anywhere you go in Mexico. I've been lucky enough to spend almost four weeks in Mexico about two years ago. I remember how drawn I was to the colorful, lively, and sometimes very crowded street food stands. So when I was approached with this project and received the brief I knew that had to be the inspiration.

The goal for this identity was to transmit that energy, colorfulness and fun that Mexican street food has, but also keep it elegant and refined. Think street food but by a restaurant that uses local fresh organic produce and has a precise and highly trained kitchen.

My biggest challenge with this project was to incorporate serif and sans serif, mono-space and cursive typefaces, in two languages with two different alphabets. But challenges are what make you grow as a designer and I am very proud of the end result.

The visual language for this project includes: logo, menus, cocktail coasters and other social media materials.
