This was a project with young people aged 14 to 16 to encourage advocacy and belonging towards and within their local environment. During the sessions we would head out to local outdoor spaces, parks, community gardens etc and record our visits with photography, sketches and videos.
We then collated these recordings and created visual responses to the visits. These responses included tiny sculptures, a large scale collaborative map, mini zines about themselves and the local area, and an exhibition of their photography.
By giving the young people the opportunity to look at their surroundings through another lens it allowed them to engage with it differently. This therefore would encourage them to develop a stronger connection with place in question meaning they would feel a sense of belonging within their environment.
