Universal Tissue Retractor - Orthopedic Spine Surgery

A variety of conditions of the spine can cause extreme pain, numbness, and in some cases immobility. In order to operate on these conditions with implants and other stabilizing treatments, an orthopedic spine surgeon needs to gain access to the area.
In order to reach the area, a surgeon uses a device called a retractor, to part the patient's tissue, and reveal/protect the surgical site.
Critical Design Feedback Phase 1

Combined Concept Direction
Next Steps:

-Develop mechanics of the retractor as a whole, making sure they operate harmoniously.
-Develop a formal language/design characteristics with machined/formed parts in mind.
-Cervical, posterior, and lateral mock surgeries, design verification.
-Surgical Technique booklet and product animation.
