Last One Alive

dreamed I was
the last one alive
battle concluded
none survived save me
the world in which I moved
became a strange place
abstract and confusing
lacking human context
walked a wide path
covered in clamshells
breaking sounds
crunching noises
the grinding bones
of a thousand skeletons
moaned beneath
my heavy feet
like a bridge in decay
support falling away
crushed from the
soul-heavy realization
nothing sustaining
nothing lifting
only sinking
deeper
unsure of
where to go
envious of the
channels of water
winding through marshes
in twisting and turning paths
forging their own way
through the landscape
since time beginning
in vivid colors
horizon signaled
night is coming
before me blossomed
the most beautiful sunset
behind me fell away
all I ever knew
