Description
Surge is a fast-paced side-scrolling platformer made in Unity, where you rely on your grappling hook to breeze through each level. It is a 3 months project I worked on as a level/game designer at Campus ADN with other students specialized in other departments (Art, coding, 3D modeling).

My role
In 3 months, from the conception of the game, through the pitch presentation, until the very last push of the final version in production, I experienced every situation of a production pipeline of a video game. Several design documents have been created by myself, such as : High Level Document, Level Design Patterns, Level Design Document, Rational Level Design and Ingredients User Guide.

My intentions
Created the level the Abandoned Power Plant with 3 key words in mind : Flow, inputs and rhythm. They helped me to not lose focus on the experience I wanted to bring.
The difficult part was the level contained several ingredients introductions as well as the boss's one at the end. To fit all that without overwhelming the player was very challenging but so much fun.

The results
With this project, I became familiar with Unity, its interface, tools and prefabs. I understood the importance to conceptualize on strong pillars by defining clearly the fantasy, the experience wanted.
I'm proud of this project for my development on it and for the experience I gained. It was a nice starting point for me!

You can check out some design documents samples (on the right side of the screen) such as rational game design documents for both Aim & Shoot and Wall Jump.

The game can be downloaded for free via the official Steam page right here
