hand studies & embodiment

hand studies
for this personal project, I wanted to grapple with questions of human intimacy and connection, using only the hands.

what emotions can hands elicit? what narratives can they suggest?

we often speak of the body in terms of semiotics -- a vehicle of expression or a projection of emotions, rather than embodied experiences. we even call it body 'language,' as if patterns of the body are syntactical in nature. we force upon the body cognitive and linguistic models of understanding, however, embodied emotions and communication can sometimes (arguably most of the time) be more powerful than words.

in the following sketches, I wanted to focus instead on a "body model" of the body, and illustrate a few moments of human connection through hands.
