Alternative festival 2018

Alternative Film/Video Belgrade (Serbia) is an international festival for new film and video tendencies and one of the oldest manifestations of its kind in Europe. It was founded in 1982 by Miodrag Miloševic and organized by Academic Film Center in “Student’s city” Cultural Center, as an antidote to commercial film and video-making, aiming to document and define in theory the trends, to point at the values and new creative possibilities in the fields of alternative film and video and to support unconventional practices while celebrating moving image cultures.

Innovative experimental, research, avant-garde, personal films and video works by young artists as well as established authors will be presented in two competitive selections: International selection and Regional (ex-YU) selection. As a meeting point for authors, theorists, critics and audiences, the festival seeks to capture, theoretically define trends, point to true values and encourage new creative opportunities in the field of visual digital media. Through competitive programs, author selections and retrospectives, selections of production centers and festivals, presentation of new initiatives in the region, audio-visual performances, video installations, exhibitions, talks and discussions at the round table, the Festival provides insight into the current state of new film and video in the region and in the world.

The theme of this year's festival is COLLECTIVISM
