Lagom: Nature-inspired Lunchbox

Lagom
National University of Singapore (2018)
Platform by Christophe Gaubert
Individual project
This is a starfruit, a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia.
What new industrial design opportunities can arise from studying the unique characteristics of starfruit?
Brainstorming of some potential design applications:
This eventually led to the design of Lagom, a lunchbox to promote healthy eating.
The Leaf-Shaped Lunchbox
Upon opening the lunchbox, one finds delight not only in uncovering the food but also a visual appetiser. The three compartments are shaped after a leaf, a universally-recognised shape found in nature.
A Balanced Meal
These tiered compartments have differences in dimension. The deeper and more tapered compartments serve as bowls to hold rice or soup, whereas the shallower compartment serve as a plate to hold meat and vegetables. Additionally, a divider creates sub-compartments. The meal consists of 1/2 vegetable and fruits, 1/4 grains, 1/4 proteins.
