Iphiclides podalirius

Iphiclides podalirius (common name: scarce swallowtail) is a butterfly belonging to the Papilionidae family.
Very widespread, locally common, it's widespread in Europe, northern Africa, temperate Asia and part of China; Italy is present everywhere in the lowland areas to the mountain.

The species frequents temperate forests and sunny plains up to an altitude of about 1700 m, but is suffering from the rarefaction of hedges in the plains.

It is a thermophilic species with good migration tendency. The flight takes place from March to September, in open and / or cultivated areas, but with arboreal-shrubby cover.

The first two photos were taken in northern Italy, inside a WWFs oasis.
The third one was taken in southern Italy.
