Kanye West's
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
(Conceptual Rework) By: Ethan Pascual
DESIGN CONCEPT
This work is a conceptualized remake of Kanye West's album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The concept behind this piece follows a design movement called the New York Style of Design. Which was a revolutionary era for that of design because it used strong focal images that told a story, which is very closely related to the works of that of Bauhaus. However I drew my inspiration by a leading designer at the time Saul Bass who took the essence of this design movement but created simplistic pieces by only using that of paint and cutout construction paper.

Why does any of this matter? Art should always be translated to say or show a message. The New York Style of Design had begun as a art movements to detest and defy the ongoing wars, especially that of the Vietnam War. This translates into Mr. West's life because at prior to the release of this album Mr. West had tainted his name by publicly disputing the infamous VMA's choice for winning pop-video this left his legacy in shambles. Furthermore his now ex-girlfriend had broken up with him and not too long before any of this Mr. West's Mother had recently passed leaving him in a dark place. Stripped of his name in the spotlight and his influence in the hip-hop community. This album was Kanye West's approach back into the light to tell people that he too is human and makes mistakes and that he understands that he lost his power. Which is represented by the decapitated head lying there with a crown.
