Book cover design exploration
Goal: Create a unique design that catches the eye and hints at the atmosphere of the story.
The Process
Research: other cover designs for this book mainly use the symbol of a red apple, characters, scene illustrations or combinations of each.
My approach: shifting the focus from the main character to the secondary one and creating a mix of visual symbols that represent the feel of the story and it's key points.
End result: contrast of bold red color and greyscale is leading the visual representation of the story. Closed eyes, lack of significant details on face, hair and clothing, use of artificial light — auxiliary symbols that hint at the core of the plot.
