Germany and the World 2030

Details  Book  2018  Layout, Typesetting, Infographics, Image Editing, Prepress

What major trends will change Germany and Europe, what can be expected by the year 2030, and what must therefore be on the agenda to give the right answers? This book presents relevant scenarios and concrete recommendations by important experts from Germany and the world.

In addition to the requirement to develop a minimal and neatly structured layout, it was of great importance during this project to keep track of all content and file versions. I created separate files for each chapter and compiled them together in an InDesign Book file. A well thought-out file structure with baseline grid, paragraph-, character- and object-styles was a prerequisite to stay organized. Footnotes, which should appear as endnotes at the end of the book, presented a special challenge. In InDesign, footnotes appear at the end of a page and endnotes at the end of the document. Since the endnotes were supposed to appear at the end of the book and therefore in a different file, InDesign—in this case—reached its limits. Some trickery was needed here. Thanks to the stringent use of paragraph-styles, a complex table of contents could also be generated automatically and updated whenever changes were made—making extensive corrections much less time consuming.

The book measures 26 × 34 cm and contains 420 pages. It is available in German and English and contains articles by more than 40 international authors as well as numerous information graphics, all of which were designed by me—matching the design grid of the book.
