Task - Book Cover Design

We were told to select a book to design. It can either be a book which has a plain book cover design or ones which has not been designed properly.

I decided to design the book Divergent, because I have read this book before and the book cover is quite simple. Also, it has a very popular movie trilogy, so there will be more people that can understand my design better.
Below are pictures of the original book designs.
Note that the colour perceived may be different for every user based on the screens that's viewed on.
Best representation of the colour can be found on the physical book itself.
And here is the design I managed to throw up together.
From left to right:
Edge (spine), Cover (front), Back
I tried to stay with the original colour theme as much as possible, which is an almost purple coloured red, but not maroon. Some sort of plum colour.

The centre silhouette on the cover is the main character in this story, Beatrice Prior.
The three bird silhouettes is the tattoo she has, which represents her family members.
In this book, Tris had to go around the urban jungle of Chicago, at least what's left of it,  and go through challenges and obstacles. Which is why I used a brick wall texture for the background.

I added the purple smokey-like flame on the bottom of the cover and it goes up around Tris, which relates to how Tris is set on exploring what lies in her new life. It also relates to the faction she eventually end up at.

Below are enlarged version of each picture.

Here I will explain a bit on the process of creating this design.
The silhouette of Tris is traced out first, then added the image of her tattoo.
I moved the text locations around because Tris is now on the bottom, so the main title will go on top. I tried to find a typeface similar to the original main title but could not find any. So I ended up with this, which doesn't seem too bad to me.
The others are much easier to find and it fits pretty well.
Here I added a silhouette of a city and flipped it upside down to fit on top.
I added 2 layers of wings behind the main title and gave it a gradient colour to give a sense of depth.
I had to move the individual flame/smoke onto the right place to create this look.
This is the brick wall texture, which I had to duplicate because it wasn't tall enough to cover the entire cover. Added a hard light effect so it would blend onto the background.
Also I did reflect the silhouette of the city and placed it on the bottom but with less opacity.
This is the tag for the back of the book. Tried to replicate as best as I could, I'd say it's close enough.
No, barcode will not work. Neither will I replicate the real barcode. Only the numbers.
Here's the back of the book without any text.
Here it is with text.
Tried to follow the original side design here. I copied the main title for the side, same birds but different fills, gave these the purple gradient. Coloured author and publisher, just like the original book.
I didn't want to leave it too blank so I added the smoke effects here as well.
I really love how it turned out if I must say so myself.
That's all for my design. Honestly had fun creating this, didn't think I was gonna enjoy it this much, given that this is a last minute work, only spent around 3-5 hours before uploading. But my ideas kept on coming once I started designing and it was a blast.

Anyway, have a great day/night. Thank you for reading til this far. Goodbye.
