Moov Duo - Human Factors Redesign

Moov Duo - Human Factors Redesign
Sep - Dec 2015
Moov is a fitness wearable that advertises itself as "Your Personal Fitness Coach." Accompanied by app support, it can track running, cycling, swimming, and circuit training. I chose to redesign the Moov product as a part of a Human Factors project in my final year of the Product Design Engineering masters course.

My brief was to redesign the Moov for a specific user group, discovering key issues and solving them through user feedback. Since the Moov could track each individual aspect of a triathlon,I decided to interview students training for triathlons.
User Group
I spoke to both experienced and inexperienced triathletes to see what issues they highlighted with the Moov.
Research
Every interaction point was analysed, from unboxing through setup and use. Both Aileen and Duncan used the Moov while swimming, running and cycling to explore the benefits and shortcomings of the device. I asked them both to keep a diary of the week that they used it, so that I had a broad range of experiences to draw from. The feedback submitted by the users was combined with observations taken while exercising with them.

Co-Design
Sketching ideas quickly led to basic prototyping & wireframes. These models were given to the users for feedback, and changes made depending on the recommendations given. Involving users at all stages of the design process, from testing to concept selection and prototyping allowed me to gauge their feedback and make changes accordingly. This proved invaluable, and ensured that they were pleased with the final result.
Moov Duo
To make coaching tips easier to understand, videos showing correct form and how to improve are included on the app, for viewing after exercise. Additional exercises provide mobility, strength and form tips. Coaching goals can be set to remind the user while exercising.
The Moov+ features a redesigned module, with a small screen to give feedback to the user. This is worn on the wrist when exercising. When cycling or running, the original Moov module is  also worn on the ankle. The screen provides information such as speed, time and cadence.

The strap was also redesigned, with magnets and metal inserts interacting to make the strap easier to close. The magnet is attracted to the metal, holding it in place and facilitating fastening with one hand.
