Berna Kamyar's profile

Constructive Israeli/Palestinian Discussion

A staff attorney with the Central American Resource Center in Los Angeles, Berna Kamyar represents unaccompanied children pro bono in both immigration and state courts. While working toward his MBA from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Berna Kamyar published a personal plea for positive, open, and constructive discourse between Israeli and Palestinian factions on American college campuses and elsewhere.

The letter to the editor appeared on May 19, 2011, under the name Protests Cause Tense Campus Climate in the UCSD Guardian and under the name A Plea for Peace and Constructive, Open Discussion in The San Diego Union-Tribune. This short piece briefly details two separate contentious and unproductive clashes of pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian student groups. The first occurred when Mr. Kamyar was an undergraduate at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the second occurred shortly before the letter’s publication on the UCSD campus. While several years elapsed between these two incidents, Mr. Kamyar lamented that very little had changed in the strained political environment.
