The Queen Giraffe

This is another peice in my Afro Art Exposure Series.  A series that is taking a trip through the open source of various galleries, museums and what ever else has images to use online, blending them together and creating a peice of new and beautiful art that you can learn from and thats connected to our His(Her)Story

With source images coming from the Met Museum and Pexels...Using probably one of my favorite peices of art from the Edo peoples of Benin The Primary image is the Queen Mother Pendant Mask.   The mask itself is believed to have been produced in the early sixteenth century for the King or Oba Esigie, the king of Benin, to honor his mother, Idia.

In Benin ivory is   a symbol of ritual purity that is associated with Olokun, God of the sea.   The source of incredible wealth and fertility, Olokun is the spiritual counterpart of the oba. Ivory is heavily associated with symbols surrounding Olokun,  the oba, and is Benin's principle commercial commodity bringing the peoples pf Benin great wealth

The Giraffe i just feel like is a really cool animal.  Its a mammal and an herbivore.  Its average lifespan is 25 yrs old (if uninterrupted), grow 14-19 feet tall and can be almost 3000 pounds.  A gentle but very powerful and strong animal.  One who can see Predators  coming with its long outstretched neck that reaches towards the heavens.

Using a combination of some creative layer blending and various layer masks the Multiple exposure effect was achieved in Adobe Photoshop.
With some additional color editing, some saturation and curves this is the final image.
MOCK UPS....The image in a real world setting
I wanted to put the image on T-shirts aswell so i ran the finished image through some Adobe Filter Gallery.  Oil Paint, Cutout, Glowing edges just to name a few to give it a more graphic vector style.  Adding a border of white and black to really make it pop and stand out on T-shirts with this being the final image and the mockups for how it looks in practical usage.
