For my practice and exploring my illustration style, I am going to select a theme and make 5 illustrations related to it. So My first theme is going to be “Childhood Memories” and this is the first one I could think of.

My sisters and I would just looovveee licking the cake batter and condensed milk when our mom baked. It was sooo good that we often got yelled at as it may not be enough for the cake. So later on she used to keep a little bit for us once she put the cake in the oven and we would wipe off the vessels clean.

The next memory is of a person called Ramdas. He was a dabbawala ( One of the tiffin service guy) and used to wear a red kurta and dhoti with a Maharashtrian style cap.. He used to work for my father in his spare time and eat lunch at our house. I used to find him very fascinating. His attire, the cap, his BIG mustache and the way he ate his food.

Every time, he would make a pile of his rotis and put the vegetable in the center of the pile over the rotis. Now that was a very different way to eat for a 4yo who had just begun to eat on her own. With that fascination, I started eating lunch with him everyday the same way he ate. I would make a pile of my small rotis and put a spoonful of vegetables on it and have a wonderful lunch with my new friend, Ramdas.
