Kelp-Weave Light
Every aspect of the final light design is meant to be as simple as possible, placing the focus on showcasing the kelp itself, and not the design of the light. To achieve this I have stayed true to the original tapestry design that was the inspiration for the light. As in the design, it consists of a long sheet of hand woven kelp wrapped over a long piece of Ash dowel, which is attached to the wall by two separate pieces of ash. The dowel has had a line milled out along its length, allowing the LEDs to sit comfortably inside. The top of the kelp-weave is then wrapped and pinned around the dowel to keep it in place. The hope is that when the user looks at the light all they will see is the ends of the dowel and the kelp hanging down, with the light dissipating down through the material. The final product is a feature piece that is eye-catching and dramatic, due both to its usual appearance, the effect created by light streaming through the weave, and its size, while still creating a natural aesthetic.
