I wanted to paint man in the natural environment, transport him back to a time when his instincts were fully attuned and immediately necessary for survival. Watching for trouble on his horizon. Closer to nature. It is also a connection between past and present as I believe man today wants/needs to feel connected to something bigger than themselves. Some express this by a return to the old pagan beliefs, resuming a more intimate relationship with the earth, where mystery and magic exist for them. It is important to view the world with a sense of wonder.
