Student Brief
Design a poster to promote a specific film. The solution must be type driven.

'A Beautiful Mind'

Keywords: Isolation and Unpredictable

A Beautiful Mind is all about the struggles with mental health which can be lonely and unpredictable. The film is also about the beauty of talent and romance which in itself can also be unpredictable.
Through the type package I have tried to achieve unpredictability through the erratic placement of letterforms. The generous spacing between letterforms helps convey a sense of space and isolation and in particular, the word 'mind' on it's own. John Nash had a unique mind and I wanted to get across that isolation of something special and individual.
I chose red as it symbolises romance and love but also danger and struggle.
I opted for serif type because it's beautiful, like a beautiful mind.

‘Beyond the Black Rainbow’

To get across this dystopian and futuristic film, I experimented with manipulating the type to create a warped, surreal feeling type package. I wanted to get across a sense of restriction and imprisonment so kept to strict grids margins to 'keep things together'. I have utilised space to get across a world that feels expansive. Below is another take on poster in which I experimented with a sympathetic colour palette. I’ve opted for psychedelic colours to get across a retro feel and surreal mood to work with the type.
