Exercises
Week 1
In our first week, we had to make a world based around the theme of 'Magic', magic itself could play as a big or small part of the world, as long as it has the component of it. I made the cyberpunk - magic theme where humanity found a new energy source from the core of the Earth in the 31st century that was affected by the nuclear power plant in our today's world. That energy source will give humans magic powers, but it is limited.
Week 2-4
From the concept above, I made silhouette drawings of the characters and the creatures:
Week 5
I made further development of the side characters, for now, it's focused on the outfits and how to convey which one is the antagonist and which one is the sidekick/helper for the protagonist. Each character's personalities and alignments are written in the slides above.
Week 6-7
Right after the 4 characters have been designed, I made 15 facial expressions for each:
I found these to be hard to do mainly because I'm not used to drawing human faces, it took me a longer time than expected to complete. Maintaining the same facial features while drawing the expressions was the main struggle.
Week 8-9
From the facial expressions, we had to draw gestures based on the expressions. Before that, in class we did 10 timed gestures practice.
The gestures practice really helped me a lot since it helped me to loosen up my strokes, although I know I still need a lot of practice to familiarise myself with gestures and drawing characters.
Week 10-12
These were the final weeks, we finalised our design and then constructed the posters for the exhibition.
