Anthropocene Identity
For this project we were instructed to create an anthropocene, a fossil that reflects culture and life of our current day.

I created this Anthropocine in reflection of what I think the future will look like in 1,000 years, I envision a sprawling mega city that spans states and countries, with massive clustered high-rise buildings. The city is compact, efficient, and dotted with pits filled with waste and trash, workers dump their concrete in these pits and that is how this fossil was formed. These objects were thrown away because they are obsolete in a future with more advanced technology, just another item discarded for an upgrade, similar to the obsessive need to have the top of the line tech that is so prevalent in this day and age.

These items reflect my personal ideals and represent my love for music, my hobby of dabbling in video games, and my apprehensive understanding of how reliant our species is on technology.
Process
I gathered my items, a Xbox 360 controller, a bluetooth keyboard, and a Twenty One Pilots CD case. For additional materials I used Sakrete concrete, and insulation spray foam.
1. First I did a few test pours of concrete to find the consistency I wanted.
2. I wanted to make the items look worn, I took wire cutters to the controller and sanded it down, I hacked the keyboard in half with a hatchet, and I banged on the CD case with a hammer.
3. Then I shaped a aluminum turkey pan into the desired mold to produce a chunky effect, and poured concrete and added the items.
4. I allowed the concrete to cure and dipped the pieces in a sort of slip like left-over concrete water, making them look more aged.
5. Finally I added the spray foam, trying to make it look like it was enveloping the technology with life-like tendrils.
