Boardwalk and Viewing Deck

Main Feature

This Food and Beverage deck features a ‘Bird’s-eye view’ of Fort Canning Park, overlooking the view of Clarke Quay and the Singapore River, giving the area a breathtaking view as well as an ‘on a hill’ dining experience.

The wooden timber deck has a Restaurant/Café that features a bar and a tree that was existing originally. The shape of the roof was designed and curved in order to suit this purpose. Chairs and sofas were aligned and moved to face the balcony and this would enhance the view of the site.

The front curves of the deck was designed to be a green lawn, for the purpose of blending the deck in with the terrain as well as the soft scape.
Additional lawns were placed at the other side of the deck, as well as benches for people to sit and relax.

Access

A lift would be available for access to the Food and Beverage deck, from the path from the 104m area, from the bridge linking Clarke Quay to Ford Canning Park. Universal Design was being taken note of, as well as the ease of people travelling up to the deck. As the slope of the deck’s area would be too steep to walk or travel up by ramps, the lifts would ease the access of the public.

Upon travelling up the lift, there would be a viewing deck with a  boardwalk that people would walk across to view the different view points of Fort Canning Park as well as Clarke Quay. From the different points of the boardwalk, there would be different view points of the area that people can experience. The boardwalk is made to be flat, easing the access of people walking as well as for wheelchair bounded. At the end of the boardwalk would be a gentle sloping ramp, leading up towards the Food and Beverage deck.

The iconic ‘Fort Canning Park’ wooden structure would be re-located and it would be placed on the boardwalk that would be linking to the Food and Beverage deck.
Nature Boardwalk Feature

This nature boardwalk would allow people to connect with the soft scape in Fort Canning Park that normal commuters would overlook. The boardwalk would course and curve it’s way into the trees, allowing a close physical connection with the site and soft scape. This nature trail would allow people to enter and relax at the benches and trellises to provide shade, shelter and comfort.

For the application of environmental control and preservation, the boardwalk would not affect the existing trees and in fact it would be specially designed to curve around it.
New trees are being proposed in the area, allowing maximum beauty of the nature boardwalk as well as a range of different species of plants.
Park Pavilion Deck

The Park Pavilion features wooden decks with recreational activities such as a picnic lawn with benches, a children’s playground, seating areas as well as a water feature. The decks would be placed along the terrain and path, allowing easy access and easiness on the feet.

The decks are made of Timber decking, making it smooth and friendly for children and the elderly. A play area would also be featured on the Pavilion, which includes a slide, a swing, a see-saw and a mini-water pool. The decks also features a small water feature at the side, with four continuous decks of water bodies flowing down and the water would be recycled back up, making the waterfall effect that represents Life and Refreshment. An overhead shelter would also be featured and this would shelter people from the hot sunlight and thus, would encourage people to stay at this area for a prolonged period of time.

The area promotes family bonding as it allows people of all ages to come together as one. It also allows space for the community as it bonds people together. The view from the deck is vast and breathtaking, not being obstructed by any trees or structure, perfect for the family recreational area.
