Branding for Fosters Architects

Fosters Architects
Brand identity design

Fosters is an architectural practice founded in 1993 with a mindset anchored in modernism. They engage in creating a variety of high quality structures and spaces that merge with carefully considered detailing.

The challenge: In response to a company wide restructuring and expansion, the practice needed to develop a new and dynamic brand identity that would better reflect their design philosophy. This was delivered through a simple geometric brand identity system that easily adapted to it’s environment.
By combining the architecturally inspired letterform and simple building block shapes a 3D illusion of space provided the identity with a distinctive and immediate motif. Pairing this with type and a monochrome colour palette provides Fosters with a unique platform to showcase their work.
By overlaying the logo and text onto the monogram ‘F’ it provided a grid system for directions in this wayfinding system that was applied to their office lobby.
The identity guidelines ensured continuity in the use of the monogram motif and how to pair this with the logo, typography and colour palette.
Just for fun I created this simple animation.
As part of Fosters restructuring fabrication, carpentry and joinery were all brought in-house. A clear visual way of showing how they fit as integral parts of the practice was developed.
The website makes full use of the architecturally inspired grid system that places photography front and centre. The abstracted monogram becomes a core component of the design, helping shape each page and bring the marque to life.
