Red Dress Project for the Red Heart Association

I was tasked with designing and sewing a red gown for the Go Red For Women campaign for the Red Heart Association. My dress was inspired by the red light district of Amsterdam; from the larger-than-life burlesque performances, to the reclaiming of femininity, to the bright lights that cut through the night sky, to the way a woman chooses what to do with her body.

The dress is constructed out of rayon, a material that would be easy to use to make my 24-piece bustier bodice. In addition, I used 15 meters of tulle, hand-sewn on the skirt. The dress utilizes an invisible zipper, breast cups, and 5 pieces of boning.

The dress was shown in a fashion show in Rome and will be shown at a fashion show in Philadelphia.
