The Manhattan Youth ballet needed a depiction of the famous ‘Union’ rats which are used in the North Eastern United States by Union Workers to protest employers. The client requested an inflatable “union” rat to be used during their annual Christmas performance of ‘The Knickerbocker Suite’. This project required both industrial and print design facilitated through model creation and the use of the Adobe Illustrator artwork. The rat had to be seven feet tall, meet the aesthetic standards of the MYB and its’ audience and easy to unplug for the young dancers.
This project was designed in America and the final product was produced by Jet Creations Inc. in China. A 6 panel cross section of the original 3D model was created In AutoCAD. These sections were then imported into Illustrator to apply vector illustrations to the client’s specifications.Using heavy card stock, the 6 panels that were designed were crafted together to ensure that all of the artwork lined up correctly.
