First instructional design video: looking back

Week 4 project
“Create an instructional video, part 3”

The project was to create an instructional video based on any 1 of the online tutorials that we were given to view. Based on that tutorial we were to create a storyboard to first show how we were going to film everything, and then afterwards created rough cuts and then eventually intermediate cuts and final versions with audio and sound effects. My target audience for this instructional video was “Do-it-yourself” fans that were between the ages of 18-30. The purpose of the project was to give this target audience the information and a step by step video to create their own green tea leaf bath bombs.

The learning outcomes were as follows;
1.0 Apply learning theory to previous version of video to find areas for improvement
2.0 Complete the final cut using editing and audio techniques to increase effectiveness of the instructional video
3.0 Apply video editing techniques to increase the effectiveness of an instructional video

Based on the instructor’s grade that I was given, I would say I did fairly well in this regard since she gave me a 97 out of a total 100, for a an assignment that was worth 15% of my grade. The only comment that she left was that the ending of the video felt somewhat rushed and that it needed a final shot to act as a conclusion. The one thing that my peers had mentioned that I needed to improve was the camera shakiness I had while filming and that I should’ve explained what bath bombs are. Other than those issues everything else turned out great.
