I was prompted to illustrate any legend or myth, and after some searching, I discovered a Native American legend called the Maid of The Mist. It's about an Iroquois woman whose tribe lives on the shores of the Niagara Falls, and she's known for killing a serpent who threatened to eat her people. There's a lot of variation in the exact retelling of the story, though.

After the woman, who is known by Lelawala in most variations, saves her people, she ascends to the heavens with the god of the sky. There she lives forever, but she can't return to her people on Earth. What I wanted to portray was Lelawala looking over the falls one last time before going to live in the clouds.
