Creating an Instructional Video

Create an Instructional Video
This instructional video project was designed and developed over a period of weeks through a three-part process. The purpose of this project was to help a Star Wars fan crafter in the target audience learn how to construct their own lightsaber out of everyday items found around their home.
Part 1
In this component of the project, storyboards were designed for an instructional video project as a means of planning and communicating the compositions of shots, as well as the concepts, content, and the sequencing of information to others prior to beginning the actual video production process.
Learning Outcomes:
●    Apply principles of pre-production to create a project storyboard
●    Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail in creating a storyboard
●    Participate in a community of practice to share concepts with peers
The above images capture the different aspects of the storyboard designed to detail the plan for shooting and the story as well as the instruction to be delivered through the video.
Part 2
In this component of the project, focus was placed on the editing process with the goal of producing high quality instructional videos. During this stage, the process of how to create a rough-cut video was researched and practiced, and then the project was further developed into an intermediate cut of the video.
Learning Outcomes:
●    Produce footage for an effective and engaging instructional video
●    Demonstrate knowledge of camera angles and shot coverage
●    Assemble preliminary edits for critical review
This iterative process produced a rough cut that was filmed from three different angles with a green screen. After viewed and reviewed, the rough cut was re-shot for an intermediate shot that allowed for better lighting, camera angles, and better quality footage to be shot.
Part 3
In this final component of the project, the fine-cut was designed and developed to produce a high quality instructional video. Music, special visual effects, and more were added to complete the project.
Learning Outcomes:

●    Apply learning theory to previous version of video to find areas for
      improvement
●    Complete the final cut using editing and audio techniques to increase
      effectiveness of the instructional video
●    Apply video editing techniques to increase the effectiveness of an
      instructional video
The photos above help capture how green screens were swapped to include quality backgrounds, and keying was applied for best results with coloring and lighting for the fine-cut video.
Fine-Cut Instructional Video
The video above is the fine-cut video designed and developed to instruct others on how to build a lightsaber with everyday items found around their home.
