Script for #FactswithFogerty Campaign

Episode 1 Introduction

Hello, my name is Dr. Glen Fogerty, and I am the Associate Dean of Admissions and Recruitment at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.

In this weekly series, I will be sharing tips about how to find your right fit for medical school and some – hopefully for you – interesting facts about our college.

Let me show you around…..

The College of Medicine - Phoenix is located on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus in the heart of downtown. Phoenix has a vibrant biosciences corridor allowing our students to gain clinical exposure in 9 outstanding hospitals and benefit from leading-edge research labs.

Not sure if you know this but Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the US, home to five professional sports teams and 300 sunny days a year…..Not a bad place to go to medical school, right!

Join me on Fridays for more – as we call it – Facts with Fogerty.

Episode 2 Finding Your Right Fit

Hello, and welcome back to #FactswithFogerty. I’m Dr. Glen Fogerty from the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.
Applying to medical school is not just about getting in. The admissions process is about finding the right fit. This means for you…the applicant…and for us…the medical school.
This can be measured for both of us during your Applicant Visit Days, during the MMI process, and during our Admission Committee meetings.
For a candidate that goes through the entire admission process…35 individuals would have touched that application!
That is us ensuring the right fit but we want to ensure you do your homework as well!
Tune in next Friday for more #FactswithFogerty.

Episode 3 What We Look For

Hello again! This is Dr. Fogerty from the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.
Medical school admissions season is in full swing and we are excited with the applications we have read to date!
Every medical school welcomes students with bright minds. We seek students with open minds and unwavering commitment to helping others and the communities in which they live.
We are interested in applicants that are personable, resilient, self-aware…really someone that is practiced at balancing it all. We are not just thinking about as you enter medical school but when you will be a practicing physician.
If this sounds like you, we would be excited to review your application.
I’ll be back next Friday with more #FactswithFogerty.

Episode 4 Curriculum

It’s a great day here in downtown Phoenix! Hello, I am Dr. Glen Fogerty from the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.
All medical schools must teach the core curriculum to maintain their accreditation. But not all medical school experiences are created equal.
We teach in the organ-based, block system. With that, we have one physician and one basic scientist for each block. Or more simply put…one MD and one PhD in each block.
With that, we employ a variety of interactive learning methods from clinical case mysteries to hands-on labs. This ensures that our students develop strong medical and scientific foundations.
I hope you are finding these sessions helpful as you consider your options for medical school….and see you next time for #FactswithFogerty

Episode 5 Doctoring

It’s Friday, and this is #FactswithFogerty. I am Dr. Glen Fogerty with the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.
The Doctoring Course covers more than the basic skills you will need as a physician. It encompasses communication…physical examination…and critical thinking…all of which we consider to be core competencies.
Most importantly, this longitudinal course prepares you for your clinical experiences…clerkship rotations…and allows you to be comfortable – and confident – as you build your physician/patient relationships.
With us…you will be ready!
Join me next time for more #FactswithFogerty.

Episode 6 Simulation Center

Hello and welcome. I am Dr. Glen Fogerty with the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.
This is the Center for Simulation and Innovation on our campus. With 33,000 sq. ft., it is one of the largest simulation facilities housed within a university in the U.S. and is a flagship for the University of Arizona.
The Sim Center educates 320 medical students in hundreds of simulation-based training events, which can range from 3 students to as many as 160!
As I mentioned when talking about our Doctoring course…our Sim Center ensures you will be ready as practice does make perfect!

See you next week with more #FactswithFogerty.

Episode 7 Student Development

This is Dr. Fogerty from the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix, and we are continuing our discussion about finding your right fit for medical school.
You may think you have to be an extrovert to be comfortable interacting with patients. Not so!
The Student Development Office on campus conducts personality tests with each of our medical students and found that 64% are introverts!
What does that mean for you? You can be confident entering our medical school that we will take the time to learn about you…how you best study…how you best interact with others…how you will best succeed. Because when you succeed…our school…our clinical partners…and, most importantly, our community succeeds.
Thanks for tuning in to #FactswithFogerty.

Episode 8 Alumni and the Match

Happy Friday! This is Dr. Fogerty from the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.
The success of our alumni is the true test of how well we prepare students to become physicians.
So let’s talk about our alums and a bit about the Match.

Episode 9 Wellness

Hello again! Dr. Glen Fogerty here with the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.
You cannot care for others if you do not first take care of yourself.
We believe it is important for medical students to develop the tools and understanding to maintain their wellness. Our students are paired with…what we call…a “big sib” as part of a Wellness Team.
They also learn techniques for managing stress…listening to their bodies…and for developing strong support networks.
What does this mean to you? To me, it means we will be there for you to the degree you need. Whether we are that foundational rock or a safety net…we will be there for you!
See you next week for more #FactswithFogerty.

Episode 10 Good Luck to You!

This is Dr. Fogerty from the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.
The deadline for medical school applications is just around the corner. Roughly 50,000 students apply to Allopathic (MD) programs annually and 20,000 enroll in a medical school.
Last year the College of Medicine – Phoenix received over 6,700 applications for a class of 80 students.
A few times during our “Facts with Fogerty”, I have spoken about finding the right fit. That is what I want to leave you with as well.
Choose a medical school where you feel at home…where you will receive the support you need…you can allow that “gut feeling’ to be a part of your final decision process.
And if this process gets stressful…just remember why you wanted to become a doctor in the first place!
Whether you apply to our medical school or others…I want to take a moment to wish you the best of luck!
