Transcending Stereotypes

Our culture is so visually run by appearance. What you wear, drive, listen to, where you live, are all apart of who you are as a person and whether you like it or not you are being seen and judged by others. One thing that I think society is judged by is where we live. People seem to always be looking to have the biggest, best or nicest house. With this project I wanted to bring out that stereotype and show it through collages of many different houses put together.
Some different aspects that houses are judged by are location, size, quality, upkeep, materials, landscaping, uniqueness and many many other things. It is not just about the actual structure but the entire property on or surrounding a home. Some homes are plain while others are bright and try to make a statement. Some people care what their house and property look like, while others don’t at all.
In my two photographs I have taken pictures of homes from around Boise that vary in all aspects and merged them all together. Everyone needs a place to live and you can transform that shelter into who you are as a person or you can leave it as you found it. I think your home ultimately represents who you are to the outside world even though it may not be the truth to who you actually are and we all need to keep that in mind.
