Mountain Escape
So as I've been experimenting more and more with digital papercraft techniques so I thought I'd take the leap and get myself a Wacom tablet. I've always found it weird whilst using a tablet because my hand is on the desk but my drawings are happening on screen but I think after some use it'll start to feel more natural!

Below is just a piece I sketched out, scanned in and created using Photoshop. No real agenda I just wanted to make something pretty with my new tablet. I really enjoyed playing around and love how this turned out! There's a little digital shadow tip at the bottom of this post if you've ever thought about using shadows in your pieces.

Little details to consider when using shadows...
It's good to consider how shadows would appear naturally if this was an actual layered piece of paper art. The left image shows the standard generated shadow of the cloud which is the same opacity and size all the way around. When you think about how the cloud would cast a shadow in real life the mountain and the background wouldn't share the same distance from the cloud therefore the shadow cast wouldn't be the same. You want to blur the parts that are further away from the background more to create a realistic sense of depth which is shown in the image to the right.

I always think if you want to go into digital layering like this it's really important to play around with real layered paper first so you get to understand how shadows would look in real life before going digital.

Good luck!!!
