I was commissioned to create a bespoke piece of art for a first anniversary gift... this was quite an honour!
Apart from the colour palette, I was given completely free reign on the design which was amazing... but scary!
I first took inspiration from the orchids, a favourite flower of the couple in question and the flowers they chose for their big day. I chose to create two identical orchid branches to represent the couple - then played around with various layer options to create the cartoon-like, outlined effect which I felt suited the design most.
I took snippets from some of their wedding photos, altered the colours to fit in with the colour palette and pasted them into random flowers - the photos included stained glass windows, the couple themselves, sequins from a bridesmaids dress and even the art deco toilet sign at their venue!
For the background I played around with layer opacity to give a subtle look to the image of their wedding venue (Islington Town Hall). I then added lyrics special to the couple in the same subtle way.
They were very happy with the final artwork (phew!) - I was really pleased I managed to create a subtle piece which is completely personal to them without being cheesy!
