This is a photo of a Komatsu engine gasket kit, which I staged and shot on a photo table with a Canon 40D DSLR camera, tripod and lighting. The reflection is seen on the plexiglass surface and the red coloring in the big gasket is a bit dull.

Using the pen tool in Photoshop, I was able to achieve snug edges and a perfect transparent background. A faster way would have been to use the Quick Selection tool with a 7pt. brush and 1% spacing, but the smaller ring and gasket edges needed to look as crisp as possible. I applied a non-destructive filter to the smart object to enhance the colors. You can see more examples on the catalog covers in the Catalog Design and Layout project.
