18 Before 30

Inspired by David Bowie

You do your hair, and then your lashes
Strand by strand, Ashes to Ashes.
Major Tom taught me to always stay weird
These giant pallets of makeup, make that perfectly clear.
A simple stroke of a brush, a canvas of a face
I take a long, hard look in the mirror
But see what the makeup will replace.
The lines on my face the represent my past,
The memory of that young, fresh skin
But here we are, alas.
The makeup has been done, the hair has been sprayed
An outfit assembled; the room? Rearranged.
The socks that never match, the boots are finally on
Driving across the city to meet my friends, and then that song comes on...
I turn it up amd Slip Away
How beaufitul it is to be here, yet another day.
The windows are open, and the music is loud
The car now in park, I enter the crowd
The crowd that reminds me that it's okay to be different, and it's okay to cry;
That it's necessary to shamelessley laugh, if you ever wanna fly.
So listen to me, you Sweet Little Girl,
Sometimes, you're gonna wanna run like hell
This will get you nowhere, as time will soon tell.
Suddenly, you will slip into your own, personal hell.
Do what you love, with the people that you need
And never, ever forget where your good times will be.
Sometimes will be hard, and that is okay
Because I promise you'll make it, for just one more day.
