Alt-J is a British indie rock band with many sub genres. Their name derives from the keyboard shortcut Alt-J the Mac, which creates the Greek delta symbol for mathematical change. My sister first introduced me to the band Alt-J and their song “Breezeblocks” back in 2013. At the time, Alt-J was still a relatively new band having only released their first album a year before. I thought they were weird and mysterious at first, because I could not understand what they were saying. However, they have quickly become one of my favorite bands, and certainly one of the most unique sounds in my library (of songs).
The tracks I have chosen to include in this compilation album come from their first album, and two later albums: “The Relaxer” and “This is All Yours”. These albums show the progression of their music. Their first album is unique and folky, almost raw, compared to the more electric stylized sounds that show up in their newer music.
