Vector Graphics- Gig Poster

I was assigned the task to make a gig poster. With July 4th coming up, I knew that I wanted to do something in regards to the armed forces. As I was sketching there was a pattern that repeated continuously. I had a lot of stripes, stars and the flag. In the end, I decided to have  a faded flag on the background of my poster and a member of the armed forces in the front.

To make the flag I used the pen tool to create three different stripes and add some curve to them. Then I used the blend option to create ten more lines so I could have thirteen stripes to make up the flag. I used the rectangle tool to create the blue square on the flag. In order to match the curve of the lines on the flag, I used the anchor point tool to create curved lines. In order, to have text and simplicity on my flag I decided to have 35 stars instead of the 50. I used the star tool to create five stars and the blending tool to create the remaining give. In order to have the flag not stand out I used the blend transparency and set the opacity to 50%. To make the text readable I had ten stars be blended and have 25% opacity.

I based the army soldier off of a picture online. I used the pen tool to create the outline of the helmet, shoulders, and the face off the shoulder. I wanted the facial features to complement but not be the main focus of the pictures. The soldier is facing towards the side of the picture because it looked better then facing directly towards the front of the poster.

Mid way through my design, I received critique from my peers. They encouraged me to change the blue square and stars from the upper right to the upper left side because the army ranger was looking in that direction. After reviewing the critiques from my peers I was able to see the benefit of adding more details to the ranger and eliminating all tangents,

One of the details added was camouflage. I used the pen tool to create four or five different points. I used black, brown, green and white to create the camouflage. I used the pattern tool to create the camouflage and placed it over the helmet and clothes. Another detail I added was patches that the army ranger would use. I used the rectangle tool to create the flag and used the blending tool to create fifty starts and thirteen stripes. I used a gold and black for the patches. I added a patch texture to help them look more realistic. I used the pen tool to help create the patches and matched the text to the actual patches that the ranger would wear.

For the vest I used the rounded rectangle tool to help create a vest that is identical to the vest used in battle. I used a light green for the clothing and the same black from the vest on the chin strap.

I found the colors for my poster on Adobe colors. I used the Patriot color theme so the poster matched what type of music will be played at the gig and what messaged the client wanted delivered.
