For my Senior Thesis at Pacific Northwest College of Art, I looked at different mediums of creative protest. I was fascinated by the musical movement of protest during the 1960's and 70's, whose songs of change spoke directly to it's generation and the struggles they were facing during that time. While reading Dorian Lynskey's 33 Revolutions Per Minute: A History of Protest Songs from Billie Holiday to Green Day, and listening to as many songs during this time, I kept a visual journal that recorded my response to some of my favorite protest songs. These images and spreads later became a main inspiration in my final thesis project.
Bob Dylan's The Times They Are a Changin'
Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit
Creedance Clearwater Revival's Fortunate Son
Joni MItchell's Big Yellow Taxi
Bob Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind
Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On
