Location: Sremski Karlovci, Serbia

The concept is about conservation of the historical town of Sremski Karlovci in Serbia.

Sremski Karlovci represents one of the most important cites of the rich history of Serbian people. Therefore, it was important for the idea to incorporate the contemporary within the old, instead of the other way around. 

Given that, we decided, instead of redesigning completely the town core, we would indirectly incorporate the contemporary means of transportation + the nature surrounding Sremski Karlovci into the existing space.

Means of transportation - 

Eurovelo route 6 goes straight through the town center, therefore, it was only natural to use that context and spread cycling as a primary means of transportation throughout the whole town. In the north of the town center, an underpassage for bicycles and pedestrians was added that leads straight to the shore of Danube.

Also, the unused shopping mall was redesigned as a big bicycle parking spot on the second storey, and a bicycle shop and service on the first one.

3 - Fruska Gora mountain - its contours and different shapes are indirectly incorporated into the atmosphere and the design of the two town squares.
