Visualization of Book Content Through an Illustration System
FHNW Hochschule für soziale Arbeit (School of Social Work) FHNW, 2016

Superdot was approached by Professor Olaf Geramanis to develop a visual method to illustrate the findings of his research. The analysis focused on social dynamics in the workplace, observing people as individuals, in groups and within a whole organization. It was a challenging task to translate the complex management-related findings of the research into an easily comprehensible visualization, uniting the whole book with a common motif.

We developed a distinct language using isometry to display the three possible states: individual, group, organization. This enabled us to illustrate the placement and orientation of an individual relative to others within a defined space. Through the visualization, the observer moves from micro to macro perspectives of group dynamics. Understanding was enabled through the foundation of this visualization, with deeper insight provided by the text. Professor Geramanis decided to revise some contents of his book based on the findings of the visualizations. This demonstrates that graphic design can go far beyond the sole illustration of content, eventually even informing research.
